High speed chase ends in arrest

A high speed chase through downtown Sunnyside resulted in the arrest of a Longview man late Monday night.

Sunnyside police arrested Rudy Moreno, 29, on charges of felony eluding. Local officers say he was clocked at driving upwards of 70 miles per hour through downtown Sunnyside.

Moreno evaded police for nearly 12 blocks before abandoning his vehicle and fleeing on foot. Officers pursued him for another two blocks on foot until Moreno surrendered. The incident occurred shortly after 10 p.m.

During a check on Moreno, officers learned he was wanted on several federal warrants covering a bail violation, three counts of possession of firearms and possession of a stolen firearm. He was also wanted on a Yakima warrant charging him with failure to appear on a previous possession of marijuana charge.

Sunnyside police said at the time of Moreno's arrest a pipe used for smoking cocaine/methamphetamine was located in his vehicle and another pipe used for marijuana was found in his pocket.

He has been booked into the Sunnyside jail, pending transfer to federal custody.
