Council approves street closures for Sunshine Days

At this past Monday night's meeting, the Sunnyside City Council approved a request from the Sunnyside Chamber of Commerce to assist with the 39th annual Sunshine Days celebration.

This year's Sunshine Days celebration will be held Sept 16-18 in Sunnyside.

Council approved closing the area from Decatur Avenue to Franklin Avenue on Sixth Street and then from Franklin Avenue on down to Fifth Street for the street fair that is part of the Sunshine Days celebration.

Council also granted the chamber's request to locate a carnival on Fifth Street between Edison Avenue and Grant Avenue. Paradise Amusements has requested that Fifth Street be closed starting the morning of Tuesday, Sept. 13. The carnival will open Thursday, Sept. 15, at 5 p.m. and be in operation through Sunday, Sept. 18, closing at 10 p.m.

Council also approved the chamber's request for assistance with traffic control for the annual parade on Saturday, Sept. 17, beginning at 10 a.m. The parade will start at Sunnyside High School, traveling along Edison and ending at the Sunnyside Law and Justice Center.
