A couple of weeks ago I went out behind my house and was surprised to see the post beside the water meter had been removed. I looked around and saw the other posts on my block had been removed.
Each of these posts had a device that allowed city crews to read the water meters electronically.
I asked around about why they had been removed. The answer seemed to be that someone had complained to the city manager that the posts were ugly and so they were removed.
I know that if most people had complained about the posts nothing would have come of it. I hope whoever had them removed wrote a personal check to cover the costs, because I have a news flash-I don't think the good fairy is going to pay for it.
I don't mind paying for a new well if it's needed. I don't mind paying for upgrades to inadequate water lines, nor do I mind paying for reasonable system upgrades. But I do have a problem with buying equipment, installing it and then removing it because someone doesn't like it and then putting something else in.
When Bill Clinton was asked why he got involved with Monica his answer was, "For the worst reason possible, because I could."
Just because you can do something does not mean you should.
