Company to look into arsenic levels at Cheyne Landfill

Tuesday morning, Yakima County commissioners approved an amendment to its contract with Pacific Groundwater Group of Seattle, which will allow the company to monitor arsenic levels at the Cheyne Landfill.

Pacific Groundwater Group is a company that has been working with Yakima County since December 2000 to take care of water quality monitoring and gas monitoring at the county's various landfill sites.

According to the amendment, the concentration of arsenic in one of the monitoring wells at the Cheyne Landfill, located outside of Zillah, has exceeded historic levels.

The purpose of the amendment is to allow Pacific Groundwater Group to do the research needed to determine whether or not the arsenic is related to landfilling at the Cheyne facility.
