Sunnyside residents are being asked to give of themselves while making plans for that last summer get-away over Labor Day weekend.
Marie Handy, the local American Red Cross blood drive chairman, is asking Lower Valley residents to turn out next Tuesday, Aug. 30, for a pre-Labor Day blood drawing.
The sponsor of next week's blood drawing is Sunnyside Community Hospital. Donations of blood will be accepted from 1 to 6 p.m. at the United Methodist Church hall, located at Ninth Street and Edison Avenue. Walk-in donors, said Handy, will be gladly welcomed, but for those who want to show up at a set time to donate blood, she encourages them to call 1-800-448-3543 to make a scheduled appointment.
State suspends certifications of nursing assistants
The Washington State Department of Health has indefinitely suspended the certifications of two Yakima County nursing assistants.
State officials said both Elise A. Martinez and Daisy Lee Medina tested positive for a controlled substance, prompting the suspensions.
