LYLE - The Bickleton girls basketball team split a couple of games this weekend at the Lyle tourney.
In their first game, the Lady Pirates lost to Oregon's Arlington High School by a score of 35-23.
"They made a couple of 3's in the first quarter and that got them off to a good start," Bickleton Coach Tom Whitmore said.
The Pirates struggled in rebounding and couldn't get their offense going. Arlington held a 26-13 advantage at halftime.
In the third quarter the Pirates' defense started to play better but their offense still struggled with the ball.
"We're going to work on rebounding and our offense this week," Whitmore said. "If we run it correctly, I think we'll be real effective."
Kirstin Slater had 14 points and 10 rebounds for the Lady Pirates. Corryn Raschko had four points and Chelsey Mercer added 2.
In Bickleton's game on Saturday, the Pirates played the JV team from Lyle.
"We played our starters for most of the first quarter then put in our younger players," Whitmore said. "Our younger players needed experience and this is a great game for it."
The Pirates defeated Lyle by a score of 31-14.
"I was pleased our younger kids had a chance to play so much," Whitmore added. "We're going to need them later on in the season."
