GERTRUDE L. SMITH
Gertrude L. Smith, 92, of Sunnyside died Dec. 22, 2005, at Hillcrest Manor.
She was born March 4, 1913 in Beverly, Ill. She graduated from Granger High School in 1932.
She is survived by two sons, Wayne of East Wenatchee and Ken of Granger; one daughter, Carole Tovar of Mill Creek; and nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held Thursday, Dec. 29, 2005, at 1 p.m. at Colonial Funeral Home in Toppenish. Interment will follow at Zillah City Cemetery. Colonial Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

JoAnn Cussins, 60, of Yakima passed into the arms of her loving personal Savior Jesus Christ Wednesday, Dec. 21, 2005, at home, surrounded by her loving family, after an extended battle with cancer.
She was born April 19, 1945 to Roy E. and Helen J. Anderson in Hillsboro, Ore. She grew up in Otis Orchards, where she graduated from East Valley High School of Spokane. She attended Prairie Bible Institute in Three Hills, Alberta, Canada, where she graduated in 1968. While later working at Camp Sambica in Bellevue, she met and married Richard R. Cussins on May 11, 1969. They had two children before moving to Mabton in 1976, where they worked for Boyville Youth Ranch. In 1991 they moved to the Nile Valley, where they worked for the Flying H Youth Ranch. In 1993 they left the ranch, moving to Yakima where JoAnn started working for Living Care Retirement Community, where she worked up until October 2005.
JoAnn loved to crochet, knit, quilt and bake. Her cinnamon rolls, donuts and dinner rolls were highly sought after by people throughout the entire area. JoAnn attended the Wiley Union Church, where she was very active in various Bible study and prayer groups, as well as Wednesday Quilters' meeting. She was very busy making many homemade articles for the residents of Living Care Retirement, the Union Gospel Mission and various bazaars.
JoAnn is survived by her husband Richard; daughter, Melidee Cussins of Lonavala, India; son, Luke and his wife, Linda; and JoAnn's precious grandson Noah of Mabton; sister, Arlene Harris and her husband, Larry, of Spokane; brothers-in-law, Robert Cussins and his wife, Bertha, of Glide Ore., Ronald Cussins and his wife, Nancy of Crescent, Ore., Dean Cussins and his wife, Carolea, of Melba, Idaho; along with numerous nieces, nephews and their families.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Viewing will be held Monday, Dec. 26, 2005, from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Yakima Chapel of Valley Hills Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2005, at 10 a.m. at Wiley Union Church, 2711 S. Wiley Rd., just off Ahtanum Rd., with burial to follow at Terrace Heights Memorial Park, Yakima.
Memorials in her honor may be made to Wiley Union Church Women's Ministry or Yakima Union Gospel Mission.
