WARDEN - Robert Marquez won the 275-lb. weight division to lead Mabton High School's wrestlers at the Warden Invite Thursday.
The Vikings were fifth out of 10 teams entering the tourney, which was won by host and state powerhouse Warden.
"We did well," said Coach John Kilian. "It would have been nice to have a couple more in the finals, but several kids were sick."
Marquez recorded three consecutive pins to take his weight class.
Mabton also had several wrestlers finish third.
Eric Meza was third at 103 lbs., posting a 3-1 record in the process. "He had a neat day," Kilian said of Meza. "He ended up his day by winning 12-5 in the consolation final."
Luis Aviles didn't make weight at 112 lbs., but shrugged it off to bring home third-place honors in the 119-lb. weight division. He ended the day with a 3-1 record, including a pin in the consolation match.
At 125-lbs., Andy Torres posted a 3-1 record and captured third-place on a 10-0 major decision.
Cesar Macedo earned third-place at 160-lbs. with a 3-1 record and a pin in the consolation final.
Eli Perez brought home a fourth-place medal in the 215-lb. weight division with a record of 2-2.
Adrian Magana earned fifth at 171-lbs., recording a pin in his last match to even his record at 2-2.
"It's time to regroup a little bit and get back after it next week," Kilian said of his grapplers' next contest at Freeman, near Spokane, next Thursday. "We're all ready for Christmas break."
