RICHLAND - Grandview wrestlers Fernando Godinez at 130 lbs. and Shay Seimears at 140 lbs. each captured individual titles to help the Grandview wrestling team win the team title at the Handford Winter Cup tournament Wednesday.
Grandview took the team title with a score of 204.5, Prosser came in second at 179.5.
Four other Grandview wrestlers captured second-place finishes en route to the team victory.
Sophomore Dalton Walker at 119 lbs., senior Max Saladina at 135 lbs., junior Jacob Robillard at 160 lbs. and senior Tovias Magna at 171 lbs. were all runners-up in their weight classes.
Godinez won his individual title in easy fashion, cruising to the championship with a 19-4 technical fall over Kamiakin's Roger Walker in the title bout.
"He just came out and totally dominated," said Grandview Coach Jeff Sevigny.
Seimear's championship match was much more closely contested, but in the end, the Grandview senior came away with an 8-2 decision and much-needed first-place points for his team.
Sevigny said the match wasn't as close as the final score indicated. From the first takedown to the end of the match, Seimears dominated, Sevigny said.
"It was never in doubt," Sevigny said.
Grandview also placed three grapplers at third place. Michael Benavidez at 145 lbs., Rigo Rodriguez at 189 lbs., and Hele Lopez at 215 lbs. all claimed third-place finishes for the Greyhounds, which helped earn valuable team points for their cause.
Senior Freddy Magana at 275 lbs. also placed. He earned a fifth-place finish.
Sevigny said the reason for his team's victory was that so many guys placed and scored points for the team.
"I was really, really pleased with the performance," he said. "The team as a whole really stepped up."
The Grandview wrestling team will return to dual meet wrestling action next Tuesday when the Greyhounds host Zillah in a non-league meet at 7 p.m.
The 'Hounds will open their league schedule next Thursday when they travel to Naches. The league meet also has a start time of 7 p.m.
Grandview's league opener comes this late in the season following the postponement of the 'Hound's first two league matches due to dangerous road conditions.
Grandview's match against Connell, which had originally been scheduled for Dec. 8 as the team's league opener, has been rescheduled for Jan. 24.
The 'Hound's match with Othello, originally scheduled for Dec. 15, has been rescheduled for Jan. 17.
