WEST VALLEY - It took a double overtime for the West Valley High School freshmen to beat the Bickleton High School varsity boys basketball team Tuesday night. The fast paced back and forth scoring saw West Valley ultimately claiming victory by a score of 58-57.
"We were just looking for a win and we nearly had one last night," said Bickleton Coach Ben McBride.
"We were tied 20-20 going into halftime, which set the tone for the second half," McBride said.
"Our boys handled themselves really well, McBride said of his team of largely freshman players.
While it was the Pirates' lone senior, Bryan Whitmore, who was the team's leading scorer with 16 points, freshman Cody Loomis contributed 14 points.
"Free throws helped to keep us in the game," McBride said.
Whitmore made 10 of his 16 points from the free throw line. Bickleton's Chris McBride made six of his 10 points from the free throw line. Junior Ryan Bravo added 9 points and helped out his teammates with 12 rebounds.
Bickleton will face Mabton on Friday night at home.
