BICKLETON - The Bickleton High School boys basketball team gave it a great try but were unable to overcome Glenwood Tuesday, losing 65-43.
Glenwood sped to a 20-10 lead in the first quarter, despite Bickleton's best effort to press them back.
By halftime, the Pirates had gained another 12 points, but still trailed 35-22. The third quarter ended with Glenwood and the Pirates both gaining an additional 13 points, but a fourth quarter 17-point run by the Eagles sealed the deal.
"We came within eight points of claiming the lead in the third quarter, but we just couldn't pull it off," said Bickleton Coach Ben McBride.
Bickleton's Bryan Whitmore was the Pirates' high scorer with 20 points, of which six came off two 3-point shots. Teammate Ryan Bravo grabbed eight rebounds to help out his team.
Pirate Tyler Jensen landed on the injured list when he sprained his ankle in the third quarter, but not before adding 6 points to the Pirates' total score.
"I thought the boys did pretty well offensively. They were trying to do it right and they reacted quickly on the defense," McBride added.
The Bickleton Pirates (1-12, 1-18) will end their regular season this Friday night in action against Trout Lake at Trout Lake.
