Lady Vikes get two on all-opponent team

The Mabton High School girls basketball team received some recognition earlier this week to complement the successful season the Lady Vikes had.

Mabton's Michelle Tellez and Patty Mendoza were named to the Greater Columbia 'B' League's all-opponent team. This list honors the best players in the Greater Columbia 'B' League during the regular season.

"They are both awesome," said first year Mabton girls basketball coach Mike Roettger. "They are two girls who just worked really hard."

Sharelle Wells from Riverside Christian was named the girls Greater Columbia 'B' League player of the year. What was notable for the Lady Vikings was that Tellez received a vote for player of the year honors.

LaSalle girls basketball coach Todd Kent received coach of the year honors for guiding the state's top-ranked Lady Lightning to the league title.

Riverside Christian and Glenwood shared the girls sportsmanship award this year.
