S'side directors adopt 2005-06 school calendar

The Sunnyside School Board formally adopted the calendar for the 2005-06 school year at Thursday night's meeting.

Without going into much detail, Sunnyside School District Superintendent Dr. Rick Cole said this version before the board was one of three school calendars to go before the Sunnyside teacher's association.

The first day of the 2005-06 school year will be Monday, Aug. 29, with teachers being in the classroom the Thursday and Friday prior.

Students will be in class an entire week before the Labor Day holiday on Monday, Sept. 5.

Students will only miss one day of class because of a teacher learning improvement day on Friday, Oct. 14.

Parent/teacher conferences are scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 3, and Friday, Nov. 4. Students will not be in class either of those days or on Veteran's Day, Nov. 11. Thanksgiving break in the district is set for Wednesday, Nov. 23, through Friday, Nov. 25.

Christmas break will begin on Wednesday, Dec. 21. Students will not return to class until the beginning of the new year on Wednesday, Jan. 4. Students will be out of class on Friday, Jan. 13, for an inservice day and Monday, Jan. 16, for Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

Winter break in February will be Friday, Feb. 17, and Monday, Feb. 20. Winter break will coincide with the President's Day holiday.

There will be no school March 17 because of a teacher inservice day. Parent/teacher conferences are scheduled for March 30-31.

Spring break will be April 3-7, the week immediately following parent/teacher conferences in March.

Students will not be in class on Friday, May 5, because of a teacher inservice day or Monday, May 29 (Memorial Day).

Graduation at Sunnyside High School is set for Friday, June 2, 2006. PRIDE High School will hold its graduation Monday, June 5, 2006. The last day of school for the 2005-06 school year is set for Friday, June 9.
