Junior Megan Saunders rolled a match best 305 two-game series to lead the Sunnyside High School girls bowling team to a 2-2 tie against the Davis Pirates Tuesday afternoon at Sunnyside's Valley Lanes.
Yesterday's tie helps avenge a 4-0 sweep the Lady Grizzly keglers sustained at the hands of the Pirates earlier in the season.
Behind Saunders' games of 147 and 158, Sunnyside toppled Davis in the first two contests by scores of 662-642 and 691-673.
The Pirates earned the 2-2 tie by sweeping the two Baker games-133-116 and 144-110. The Baker format calls for each member of the five-girl squad to alternate taking shots throughout the 10 frames.
In the opening 662-642 victory over Davis, senior Desiree Pritchett led the Lady Grizzly charge by tossing a 162. Saunders contributed mightily with her 147, and senior Cora Rodriguez was close behind with a 142. Rouding out the Sunnyside team scoring were Kayla Coder with a 107 and Katie Weets with a 104.
In game two, Weets' 169 and Saunders' 158 were enough to propel the Lady Grizzlies to a 691-673 win over Davis. Rodriguez added a 130, Coder a 120 and Pritchett a 114.
Yesterday's 2-2 tie moved Sunnyside's record in the points standings to 5-31.
The Pirates' top bowlers yesterday were Liz Finley (155-130) and Kelsie Balam (149-133).
In JV action Tuesday, Sunnyside defeated the junior varsity Pirates by a 3-1 score. Sunnyside claimed the opener, winning 533-502. Davis rebounded for a 544-457 win in game two, but the JV Lady Grizzlies struck back with a pair of 80-77 and 125-91 wins in the two Baker games.
