Sunnyside School District is seeking new school name suggestions

What should the Sunnyside School District's new middle school be named?

In an effort to obtain public input toward the naming of the new school to be built on Washout Road north of Sunnyside, a newly formed committee is seeking name nominations.

"We need your help in naming the new middle school," said Stan Davis, a retired school district administrator who is chairing the naming committee.

"The new 78,640 square foot middle school will be ready for students and classes in August 2006," he said.

In the meantime, Davis' committee is seeking name nominations to be considered for the new building. He said the committee will follow three criteria in making the final name determination:

- The name should be known and of significance to the people of the school district;

- It should not conflict with the names of other schools in the district or surrounding school districts;

- And finally the use of names of living persons should be avoided.

"We'd also like to have those people nominating a particular name to offer us a reason for the nomination," Davis added.

The deadline for nominations is Friday, Jan. 28.

Building name suggestions may be dropped off at the Daily Sun News office, 600 S. Sixth Street, or mailed to Stan Davis, at 1110 S. Sixth St., Sunnyside, Wa. 98944.
