Police investigate local thefts

Sunnyside police officers are investigating several thefts in town.

Last Friday morning a car was reported missing from the 500 block of Reeves Way, according to Capt. Phil Schenck of the Sunnyside Police Department.

He said the owner of the car called and reported her 1991 Mercury Sable and her juvenile daughter missing. The victim believes that her daughter took the car and is possibly in the Toppenish area. Police are still looking for both the vehicle and the girl.

A resident living in the 1000 block of East Decatur Avenue reported that her vehicle had been broken into Friday night. Schenck did not have details on what was missing from the vehicle.

Another theft from a vehicle was reported Friday in the 500 block of South Sixth Street. According to Schenck, a Sunnyside man went into a local tavern and ordered a drink before he realized he had left his wallet in his car. Returning to his vehicle he found the car door open and his wallet and stereo missing, said Schenck.

Also, a Sunnyside business owner in the 300 block of West Edison Avenue Friday reported a theft of stainless steel from a shop area. The estimated value of the metal is unknown.
