At the recommendation of Sunnyside City Manager Bob Stockwell, the Sunnyside City Council moved to table a report on negotiations concerning privatization of the city's public works department.
The city is currently in negotiations with Veolia, a firm that deals specifically with operating water systems.
Veolia is working on a proposal to submit to Council for operating the city's public works system.
Stockwell said Veolia and the city have some operational issues to work out before the company can properly submit a proposal.
The city manager added that Sunnyside finally heard back from the Department of Health on its plan for backflow protection devices. Stockwell said there are some issues regarding the devices that also need to be figured out to help Veolia with its proposal.
The matter is now scheduled to come before Council at its Feb. 28 meeting.
Stockwell asked Council to hold a special work session on Tuesday, Feb. 22, to discuss the privatization of the public works department. Stockwell said Council will also need to discuss at the Feb. 22 meeting an annexation matter.
The Council will hold the Feb. 22 meeting in chambers at 6:30 p.m.
