GLENWOOD - In a tightly contested game, the Bickleton High School girls basketball team held off Glenwood Thursday night to claim a 30-25 victory.
Glenwood played a tough game, according to Bickleton Coach Tom Whitmore.
He said the Lady Pirates had a bit of trouble handling the ball, but were able to get the lead early on, outscoring Glenwood 9-6 in the first quarter, going into halftime with a 17-14 lead.
"We were able to get the lead early in the game and held on to it," Whitmore said.
He credited his team with strong defense, turned in by Stephanie Tucker, Senia Macias, Danielle Raschko and Molly Pearson in earning the win.
Bickleton's Annie Hess was the points leader with 22. She also grabbed 25 rebounds and blocked seven shots.
Kirstin Slater had five rebounds and Pearson had four.
Bickleton is now 3-4 in league and 6-6 overall for the season. Tonight (Friday) the Lady Pirates will face Lyle at Bickleton.
