Bickleton loses to Lyle 45-32

BICKLETON - The Bickleton Pirates put up a fight against the Lyle Cougars last Friday night, but a first quarter Lyle run proved too much for the young Bickleton team. Lyle went on to win 45-32.

Facing a 19-9 first quarter deficit, Bickleton was only outscored by a 26-23 margin in the last three periods.

"I thought we played really good defense and we had a lot of guys scoring," he said.

The first quarter saw Bickleton doing pretty well until a last second run by Lyle put the Cougars ahead 19-9. Lyle added 14 more points to the Pirates' 9 in the second quarter to create a sizable and insurmountable Lyle lead.

McBride said the Pirates had a lot of turnovers complicated by trouble at the free throw line.

Bickleton's Cody Loomis was the team scoring leader with 9 while Tyler Collins contributed a total of 7 points. Eric Hess helped out his teammates by grabbing 12 rebounds while Tyler Jensen claimed 10 rebounds.

The Pirates (0-10, 0-15) will travel to West Valley Tuesday for a non-league game against the West Valley "C" squad. Friday, Bickleton will face Mabton at Bickleton.
