Shearer resigns as head boys track coach

Sunnyside High School will be looking for a new head boys track coach for next spring.

The Sunnyside School Board formally accepted the resignation of Grizzly boys track coach Wallace Shearer Thursday night.

Another notable resignation is that of Chief Kamiakin Elementary School media specialist Yvette Riggs.

The board also accepted the resignation of Debbie Hatley as the Future Business Leaders of America advisor at the high school. Corey Murphy also resigned his role as freshman class advisor at the high school.

Colleen Martinez handed in her resignation as the assistant fastpitch coach at Sunnyside High School.

Pioneer Elementary School secretary Bonnie Dalke also had her resignation accepted.

The district will also be looking for a new speech language pathologist, as Anna Trainor has resigned.

Directors meet two new assistant principals

The Sunnyside School Board formally approved the hiring and had a chance to meet two new assistant principals in the district.

Charlie Diaz comes to Sunnyside from the Grandview School District. He will serve as an assistant principal at Sunnyside High School.

Doug Kaplicky was hired as the new Harrison Middle School assistant principal. Kaplicky will be working with Harrison Middle School Principal Janie Hernandez and Assistant Principal Doug Rogers next year. Kaplicky will become the only assistant principal at Harrison Middle School the following school year after Rogers takes over the newly built Sierra Vista Middle School.

Kaplicky comes to Sunnyside from the Highland School District.

Board approves dairy bid for 2005-06

The Sunnyside School Board approved awarding the dairy bid to Inland Northwest Dairies. The company will provide the district with such dairy items as sour cream, buttermilk, 2 percent milk and white, strawberry and chocolate milks.

Inland Northwest Dairies was one of two companies to submit bids for the dairy products. Inland provided the lowest costs for the white, strawberry and chocolate milks, which the district uses in abundance.

Board sets public hearing for 2005-06 operating budget

The Sunnyside School Board will be holding a public meeting Thursday, Aug. 25, to discuss the 2005-06 budget.

The meeting is the night of the regular board meeting. The budget discussion session will begin at 6 p.m. at the Denny Blaine board room. The board will discuss the budget and is expected to approve it at the regular meeting following at 7 p.m.
