G'view police search for shooting suspect

GRANDVIEW - Grandview police are seeking the whereabouts of Emeliano (Emiliano) V. Mendoza, 33, in connection with a shooting late Sunday night in which a 19-year-old Grandview male was injured.

The shooting occurred at an apartment complex located in the 400 block of Nicka Road about 9:30 p.m. Sunday evening, according to Grandview police.

Officers said the gunshot victim was conscious upon their arrival and was transported from the scene by ambulance.

The victim, whose name is not being made available, underwent surgery for wounds to the abdominal area, said Grandview Police Detective Sgt. Mark Ware.

The victim is reportedly in stable condition, although the identification of the hospital where he is being treated is not being provided for security reasons, Ware said.

The suspect Mendoza reportedly fled the scene in a dark gray Nissan with Idaho license plates. Ware said the police are uncertain if the vehicle belongs to the suspect or someone else.

Ware said Mendoza is identified as being 5'10" and 190 lbs. and may be armed.

"Mendoza should be considered armed and dangerous," Ware said.

He said police currently have no leads to the suspect's whereabouts.

"The motive for the shooting is unclear at this time," Ware said.

"Officers are still in the process of locating potential witnesses in an attempt to learn the circumstances surrounding the incident," he explained.

Anyone with information in this case is asked to call the Grandview Police Department at 882-2000.
