Sunnyside providing services for Mabton handicap student

The Sunnyside School Board approved an agreement last week with the Mabton School District to provide services for a handicap student.

Under the terms of the agreement, the Mabton School District is responsible for transporting the student to Sunnyside. The Sunnyside School District will provide all needed staff and facilities for the student in question. Sunnyside will be able to claim the student for basic and special education funds.

The agreement is for the 2005-06 school year.

Sunnyside and Yakima to share therapist services

The Sunnyside School Board entered into an agreement with the Yakima School District last week to share the services of a certified occupational therapist assistant.

Under the terms of the agreement, Sunnyside agrees to provide the therapist assistant the district has to assist Yakima in meeting the needs of its tudents. The contract will be for no more than 80 days per year. The Yakima School District will pay Sunnyside $150 per day, based on a seven-hour school day.

The agreement is only for the 2005-06 school year.

School district plans to continue offering dental program

Sunnyside School District Executive Director of School/Community Resources Ruben Carrera told the school board last week about some programs that will continue to be offered this coming school year.

Carrera said the district will continue to offer the Community Dental program to elementary school students. The program is offered through a partnership with Dr. Martin and Dr. Rodriguez's dental practice.

The Community Dental program served 96 students last year from Pioneer Elementary School and Chief Kamiakin Elementary School.

The district will also be continuing with the Grinovations dental program, which had 486 screenings at Washington Elementary School and Outlook Elementary School last year.
