MOSES LAKE - The Sunnyside Black Rock Creek Golf Course squad of club pro Jeff Bender and amateurs Bob Hall, Ron Harle, Geoff Bowlsby and Robbie Goin earned a share of the third place prize in the team division at this past Monday's PGA pro-am tournament staged at The Links at Moses Pointe.
The one-day tourney drew more than 40 teams. All told, a total of 214 professional and amateur golfers competed for team and individual awards at the Moses Lake golf course. The tournament was the 15th of 26 pro-am events being sanctioned this year by the Central Washington chapter of the PGA.
The five Sunnyside area golfers shot an aggregate 186, just three strokes off the winning pace set by the team from Three Lakes Golf Course.
Individually, Harle and Bowlsby were the only Black Rock Creek golfers to cash. Harle tied for fourth in the net column in amateur division #2 (actual score minus handicap), posting a handicap-aided 67. Bowlsby, an amateur division #3 competitor, tied for the seventh low net round in his flight with a handicap-aided 70.
The low amateur round of the day was a 2-under-par 70, claimed by Bill Herron of Walla Walla Country Club. The only other sub-par amateur round was a 1-under 71, posted by Mark Edwins of Lakeview Golf & Country Club.
In the professional division, Jeff Kent of Eagle View Golf Course claimed top honors, shooting a 7-under-par 65. A total of four professionals finished under par for the day.
