The Miss Sunnyside Court attended the Union Gap Old Town Community Days Parade last Saturday, earning first place honors aboard the Sunnyside community float, "Lost in Neverland." The float and court will travel to Seattle Saturday, July 30, to attend the annual Seafair Lighted Parade. Council meets new YVCC dean

GRANDVIEW - Monday night, Grandview City Council members had a chance to meet the new dean of the Yakima Valley Community College Grandview campus, Bryce Humpherys.

"I'm thrilled to be here," Humpherys said.

He added that having grown up in Idaho's Snake River Valley, coming to the Yakima Valley was like coming home.

Council votes

to surplus

three patrol cars

GRANDVIEW - The Grandview City Council Monday night voted to approve the surplussing of three Grandview Police Department patrol cars.

The vehicles being surplused include two 1999 Ford Crown Victorias and one 2000 Ford Crown Victoria. The cars have been replaced by new patrol vehicles.

Council awards contract for sidewalk ramp project

GRANDVIEW - Monday night, Grandview City Council voted to award the contract for work on its sidewalk ramp project.

The contract was awarded to the West Coast Construction Company, who submitted a bid of $94,586. The bid came in more than 8 percent below the engineer's estimate.

The contract will mean sidewalk ramps throughout the community will be refurbished to ensure they meet ADA standards.

Council approves final plats for two subdivisions

GRANDVIEW - The Grandview City Council voted to approve the final plats for two new subdivisions, including Chula Vista Estates on Wilson Highway and Vista Villa Estates off of Highland Road.

Council presents beautification awards

GRANDVIEW - Monday night, Grandview City Council members presented five July neighborhood home of the month awards and one business beautification award.

Home of the month award recipients were Kevin and Delia Bond of 606 Larson St., Enrique and Rosario Gonzales of 1002 Broadview Dr., Rafael and Teresa Amador of 502 Toivo Ct., Francisco and Felicitas Sanchez of 628 E. Third St., and Rick and Darlene Mashburn of 313 Avenue G.

The business beautification award was presented to Kimbrough and Associates Realty at 101 E. Wine Country Rd.
