A 17-year-old Sunnyside teen managed to escape from a man who demanded he get into his car Sunday night just before 9 p.m.
The victim reported to police that he was walking along Yakima Valley Highway near Food Pavilion when an Hispanic male driving what is believed to be a black, Ford Thunderbird or similar make car, stopped and demanded he get in the car.
The suspect began screaming at the victim and threatening his life until he entered the car, according to Sunnyside Police Department Deputy Chief Phil Schenck.
The victim was able to jump from the vehicle, escaping his kidnapper, on Scoon Road near Van Belle Road. Police believe the suspect was headed toward Granger. The victim was able to flag down a passing truck and call the Yakima County Sheriff's office to report the kidnapping.
The driver of the car was reported as mentally ill or crazy, according to Schenck, whose department took over the investigation of the incident.
He is described as in his 30s with several silver upper teeth. He was last seen wearing a long-sleeved blue shirt and black sweats. The man's car had a red interior, Schenck added.
Schenck said anyone who recognizes the description of the suspect or the vehicle is asked to call the Sunnyside Police Department, 836-6200.
The victim was not hurt in the incident.
