Bicyclist struck by Granger motorist

GRANGER - Christian Camacho, 12, of Granger was injured yesterday afternoon when he was struck by a motorist while riding his bicycle.

The youngster was rushed to Toppenish Community Hospital to receive medical attention.

According to the Washington State Patrol, Camacho was southbound on Fifth Avenue in Granger at about 4:30 p.m. Tuesday and failed to come to a halt at a stop sign at the Liberty Avenue intersection. A 1996 Mitsubishi Galant, westbound on Liberty, collided with the bicyclist.

The driver of the car was 25-year-old Helen S. Barba of Granger. The WSP trooper who responded to the accident reported Barba sustained no injuries as a result of the collision.

The trooper also noted that the bicyclist was not wearing a safety helmet.
