Sunnyside High School held its annual spring sports ceremony this past Monday night honoring the best and the brightest Grizzly student athletes.
The awards ceremony recognized student athletes for their accomplishments on and off the field during the past spring sports season.
Junior Garcia was named the most valuable player on this year's boys soccer team. Teammate Miguel Galvan received the captain's award. Coach Juan Pineda honored Luis Perez with the coaches award while Matt Jongsma was named the most improved player. Most inspirational honors went to Rafa Diego.
Earning academic honors and awards from the Sunnyside Athletic Club for the boys soccer team were Sam Wise and Francisco Solis.
This year's most valuable player on the high school baseball team was Chris Newberry. Pete Marquez was a dual award winner, taking captain and most inspirational player awards home. Coach Dave Martinez presented Eric Crimp with the coaches award while Cole Boboth was named the most improved player.
Receiving academic honors on the baseball team were Crimp, Newberry, Ryan Engel and Derek Denson.
Taking home MVP honors on the Lady Grizzly fastpitch team was Samantha Taylor. Crystal Soto was named team captain and Devina Martinez earned inspirational player honors. The most improved player this year was Amanda Montelongo.
Receiving academic recognition honors on the fastpitch team were Emily Jones, Laura Aguilar and Melissa Stamschror.
Danny Plesha was named the most valuable player on the boys tennis team. His brother, Johnny, was named the most inspirational boys player.

Erica Mendez earned MVP honors on the Lady Grizzly tennis team. Teammate Lanna Pangle was named the most inspirational girls player.
Corrin Veiga and Lizeth Chiprez had the top academic marks on the girls tennis team.
Taking home MVP honors on the boys golf team was Kevin Lick. Zach Hathaway was named the most inspirational boys golf player.
Riley Moore was the academic award winner for the boys golf squad.
Megan Downing was named the most valuable player on the girls golf team while Nicole Southern took home most improved player honors.
Julie Wedam posted the top academic marks on the girls golf team.
Outstanding performer honors on the girls track and field team went to Christy Linde. Coach Robin Bryson presented Fatima Ruelas with the coaches award. Carly Dahlstrom took most improved honors while Yanet Candido earned most inspirational.

The most valuable player on the boys track and field team this year was Luke Schilperoort. Coach Wally Shearer presented Michael Graham with the coaches award. Sterling Scott was named the most inspirational boys track and field member while Eric Rinehold gained most improved honors.
