OLIVA Y. MOERKE
Oliva Y. Moerke, 84, a long-time Grandview resident, died
Sunday, June 12, 2005, at her home.
She was born April 22, 1921 in Wapato, the daughter of
Libbie (Mayhew) and Arthur Menard. She received her education in Wapato,
graduating with the class of 1939. In June of 1939, she married Richard W.
Moerke at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Wapato.
The couple made their home in Wapato and
Moxee before moving to Mabton in 1954. The family moved to Grandview in 1990.
Mrs. Moerke worked at Prosser Pack for many years before
retiring in 1974.
She is survived by one son, William Moerke and wife,
Beverly, of Walla Walla; five daughters, Janet Bangs and husband LeRoy, of
Toppenish, Sharon Vance and husband, Mike, of Grandview, Nancy Albano and
husband, Sid, of Kennewick, Brenda Moerke of Tacoma and Kathy Gegen and
husband, Brad, of Toppenish; 16 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband,
Richard, in 2002; six brothers, Leo, Archie, Louie, Hank, Arthur and Buck; and
one sister, Louise.
Viewing and visitation will be held Wednesday, June 15,
2005, from 3 to 8 p.m. with a Rosary to be recited at 7 p.m. at Smith Funeral
Home, Grandview. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, June 16, 2005,
at 11 a.m. at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, Grandview. Burial will follow
at Grandview Cemetery under the direction of the Smith Funeral Home.
