Best SELF

Parents have until this coming Friday, June 17, to sign their children up for the Best SELF summer program in Sunnyside.

Open to youngsters 5 to 11 years of age, the Best SELF program will be in operation from June 20 through July 29, five days a week from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Children will be provided hands-on enrichment in reading and math, daily recreation, adult mentors and numerous field trips to such sites as Boulder Cave, Black Rock Creek Golf Course, the Pendleton aquatic park and Skateland in Union Gap.

Daily fees range from $5 to $16.82, depending on family income. Sign-ups are underway at the Best SELF office in room 102 of the Yakima County Courthouse and at elementary schools in Sunnyside.

Local on-stage performers sought for Yakima fair

YAKIMA - Applications are being taken now from potential performers for the 2005 Central Washington State Fair.

Those interested in performing on-stage or participating in the nightly parades are asked to apply now. Application forms are available on the fair's website (www.fairfun.com). Entertainers are asked to provide an audio or videotape showcasing their talent.

"We are also accepting applications from food concessionaires and commercial exhibitors who might be interested in participating in this year's fair," said Dianne LaBissoniere, fair marketing manager.

This year's Yakima fair will be held fSept. 23 through Oct. 2.

Mabton school directors plan executive session

MABTON - The Mabton School Board will meet in executive session tonight (Thursday) at 7 p.m.

The agenda for the meeting, closed to the public, is a personnel issue.
