GEAR-UP offers summer camps

The GEAR-UP program is offering a myriad of summer camps over the course of the next few weeks. Students can take part in camps that deal with writing and language arts, as well as camps that focus on getting ready for college.

On Friday, June 24, high school students are invited to take part in a math and science leadership camp at Columbia Basin Community College in Pasco. The camp will take place from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. and will include a presentation by guest speaker Dr. Susan M. Quattrociocchi.

June 27-30, high school students are invited to take part in a math and science camp at Yakima Valley Community College. The camp will take place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

High school students are also invited to take part in the writing, language arts and word processing camp at Grandview High School. The camp will take place July 18-22 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

GEAR-UP is also organizing a five-day camp titled, "Making Sure You're Ready for College." The camp will take place July 25-29 from 9 a.m. to noon at Zillah High School.

Middle school students are invited to take part in a writing, language arts and word processing camp taking place Aug. 1-5, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Sunnyside GEAR-UP Site Director Lino Gutierrez said transportation will be provided to the different camps, which are being offered free of charge. He added that seating is limited for Sunnyside students, and encourages those who are interested in attending to contact him at 830-2149.
