Summer mariachi music class offered

The Sunnyside School District, in cooperation with the Allied Arts Council of Yakima Valley, will be offering a free mariachi class and clinic beginning Thursday, June 23, at Sunnyside's Harrison Middle School.

The five-week class is open to middle and high school students, as well as parents and other interested persons, said Greg Kirk, Harrison Middle School music director.

Kirk said the classes will be held at the middle school band room from 6 to 8 p.m. He said the summer music program will end on July 21, with an all-day music clinic and concert.

Some music instruments are available to the students.

The mariachi music program is supported by a grant from the Wallace-Reader Digest Foundation through the Washington State Arts Commission.

For registration information call Kirk at 965-4578 or Daniel Groves at 865-1822.
