State health department issues charges, penalties

The Washington State Department of Health has taken disciplinary action against several health care providers in Yakima County.

In April 2005, the state revoked the certification of nursing assistant Shannon Marie Breding for 10 years. State officials said she was convicted of fourth degree assault for abusing two foster children. Also in April, the state indefinitely suspended the certification of nursing assistant Liza Nelson, on charges of diverting a controlled substance from a patient.

Two Yakima County health care providers were notified by the state in May 2005 that they face disciplinary action. Nursing assistants Elise A. Martinez and Daisy Lee Medina have been charged with unprofessional conduct for allegedly using methamphetamine.

Also in May 2005, the state denied the application of Lisa M. Tedder to practice as a nursing assistant in Yakima County. State officials said Tedder has several criminal convictions, including assault, theft and possession of stolen property.

Mabton drill team to host yard sale

MABTON - The Mabton High School Vikette Drill Team will host two fund-raising events this weekend starting with a yard sale Friday, June 24, according to team advisor Connie Beeman.

The yard sale will be held from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Mabton School District Administration parking lot on Main Street. In addition to used items, the team will be selling lemonade.

The dance team will also host a car wash Sunday, June 26, at Sunnyside Taco Bell on Yakima Valley Highway from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The team is attempting to raise funds to send the 11-member squad to a dance camp in Portland, Ore.

Pajama day set at Sunnyside library

The Sunnyside library will celebrate summer with a pajama day this Friday, June 24.

Children are encouraged to visit the library dressed in their pajamas as part of the library's summer reading program.

Pajama day will take place all day, from 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., and will feature craft projects. Children will have a chance to decorate pillows, as well as work on coloring sheets and other projects.

Sunnyside Garden Club meets Tuesday

The Sunnyside Garden Club will meet Tuesday, June 28, at 1 p.m. at the Sunnyside Food Pavilion.

The club will hold installation of officers followed by a program on floral design.

This will be the last club meeting until fall.

Irrigation pipes

to be replaced

in Mabton

MABTON - Tuesday morning, Yakima County commissioners granted Northwest Horticulture of Mabton two non-exclusive franchise agreements.

The agreements are for the replacement of an irrigation pipe that runs under Stettner and Allison roads.

Two agreements were needed for the project because one covers the placement of the pipe under Stettner Road and the other covers placing the pipe under Allison Road.
