I-82 accident claims life of S'side man

GRANGER - 22-year-old Elias M. Rocha of Sunnyside died Saturday morning as the result of a one-vehicle accident on I-82 near Granger.

Washington State Patrol troopers report that Rocha was ejected from his 1996 Ford Explorer after the SUV rolled. He was declared dead at the scene.

Rocha was eastbound on I-82 traveling at a high rate of speed, according to a WSP report. Troopers said the vehicle entered the median and Rocha over-corrected, causing the Explorer to veer off the eastbound right-hand shoulder of the roadway. The SUV rolled and Rocha, who was not wearing a safety restraint, was thrown from the vehicle.

The Saturday, June 25, accident occurred at about 4:15 a.m.
