Alice Castilleja, 86, of Grandview died Saturday, June 25, 2005, in Los Angeles, Calif.

Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.


Mary Lowene Emery, 94, of Sunnyside passed away Friday, June 24, 2005, in Sunnyside.

Our “Auntie Lowene” was born June 8, 1911 to John and Bertha (Woodland) Roth in Audubon, Iowa. Upon graduation from Audubon High School, she attended Boyle’s Business College in Omaha, Neb. She worked for Northwestern Telephone and moved to San Bernardino, Calif. in 1940. Lowene and Clarence D. Emery were married June 28, 1947 in California. Lowene and her husband owned Emery Realty Co., where she worked as a realtor for many years.

Lowene was a member of Holy Rosary Cathedral and past member of the Assistance League.

She is survived by her nieces, Patricia Barron of Sunnyside, Dorothy Cooknell of Lubbock, Texas and Joyce Sealander, San Bernardino; and nephews, Richard Roth of St. Joseph, Mo. and Jerry Emery of Prescott, Ariz.

Graveside services will be held Wednesday, June 29, 2005, at 1 p.m. at Mountain View Cemetery in San Bernardino, under the direction of Smith Funeral Home, Sunnyside.


Xavien Jesse Gonzalez, infant son of Priscilla Mendez and Jesse Gonzalez of Kennewick, went to be in the arms of his Heavenly Father, Wednesday, June 22, 2005, from Kennewick General Hospital.

Xavien is survived by his parents; two sisters, Calypso Marie Cervantes and Adeila Jazmin Gonzalez; one brother, Jesse Eduardo Gonzalez, all of Kennewick; grandparents, Marie E. Mireles and step-grandfather, Luis Zuniga of Grandview and Martin Mendez of Las Vegas and Andres and Nelly Gonzalez of Grandview; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Monday, June 27, 2005, at 11 a.m. at Smith Funeral Home, Sunnyside. Burial was held at East Prosser Cemetery, under the direction of Smith Funeral Home.


Enedelia Vasquez, 74, of Toppenish passed away Saturday, June 25, 2005, at Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital.

She was born Oct. 8, 1930 to Jesus and Ramona (Garcia) Vasquez in McAllen, Texas. In 1954 she with her family moved to Sunnyside, where she worked at Sun King Warehouse for many years.

Enedelia enjoyed traveling and was an excellent cook. She cherished time spent with her children and grandchildren and great- grandchildren.

Enedelia was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.

She is survived by six sons, Horacio Guajardo of Edinburg, Texas, Jessie Guajardo and wife, Sherry, and Arthur Guajardo, and Alonzo Guajardo,

all of Henderson, Nev., Alvin Guajardo and wife, Vera, of Sunnyside, and Santiago Guajardo and wife, Justina, of Sunnyside; four daughters, Janie Cervantes and husband, Javier, of Toppenish, Diane Martinez and husband, Rick, of Sunnyside, Patricia Nelson and husband, Charles, of Walla Walla and Elma Guajardo of Sunnyside; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; three sisters, Guadalupe, Suelema and Marie; and a special friend, Connie “Concha” Yanez.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Santiago Guajardo; and one brother, Fidencio.

Viewing and visitation will be held Tuesday, June 28, 2005, from 4 to 8 p.m. with a Rosary to be recited at 6 p.m. at Smith Funeral Home, Sunnyside. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, June 29, 2005, at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Sunnyside, with burial to follow at Lower Valley Memorial Gardens, Sunnyside. Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
