Seniors eligible for free produce

Senior citizens living on a limited income are eligible to receive $40 worth of fruit and vegetables each month this summer.

Yakima County has received a $29,000 grant from the Southeast Washington Area Agency on Aging to provide free fruits and vegetables to seniors. Those who qualify are eligible to receive up to $40 in vouchers that can be used to purchase locally grown produce from farmers markets and farmers' fruit stands. The program is running from June 26 through Oct. 31.

Those interested in registering for the program are asked to call the Yakima County Senior Nutrition Program at (509) 574-2200.

Babysitting course offered in S’side

Camp Fire is offering a two-day day babysitting training class in Sunnyside the end of July.

The class is open to boys and girls 11 to 13 years of age. The cost to attend is $20.

Registration is underway through the regional Camp Fire office (509-453-9151).
