Port of Sunnyside purchases 10 acres from Roehl family for $250,000

A 10-acre piece of property located near the Sunnyside-Mabton Highway is the Sunnyside Port District's latest acquisition.

Port commissioners approved the purchase of the property, located to the north of Jerry's Valley Meats, at the cost of $250,000 at its June 8 meeting.

The land, which includes a stick-built house and a late model manufactured home, are currently the property of Mr. and Mrs. Ruben Roehl. The couple's 10-acres adjoins the Port's south Sunnyside property, making it a logical purchase, said Amber Hansen, Port manager.

She said the property purchase is subject to a routine environmental inspection.

Hansen said the commissioners have not decided how they might use the property as yet. "But they felt it was a good opportunity for future Port activities," she added.
