Three councilmen miss meeting
The Sunnyside City Council granted excused absences this
past Monday night for Mayor Pro-tem Mike Farmer and Councilmen Paul Garcia and
No reasons were given for the absences.
This is the second consecutive meeting that Garcia has
missed and been granted an excused absence.
Council also granted new Councilwoman Theresa Hancock an
excused absence for the Monday, Aug. 8, meeting.
Ricks votes against consent agenda
Councilman Bruce Ricks cast the lone vote against approving
the consent agenda at this past Monday night's Sunnyside City Council meeting.
As part of the consent agenda, Council approved liquor
license renewal requests for the following establishments: Buena Vista Mini
Market, 701 South Sixth Street; Sunny Spot, 1850 Yakima Valley Highway; La
Bamba III, 535 Sixth Street South; and TW Market, 1143 Tacoma Avenue.
Council also approved the payment of $655,240 for bills and
salaries. Copies of the vouchers are available for public review at the finance
department at city hall.
School district issues to top July 11 Council meeting
A couple of issues dealing with the Sunnyside School
District will be on the Monday, July 11, Sunnyside City Council agenda.
Among the issues will be an agreement with the school
district concerning the improvement of the Washout Road area where a new middle
school is going to be built. The Council will also be dealing with an amendment
with the Student Resource Office agreement the city has with the school
Other matters coming before Council on July 11 include
entering into a contract for work on the wastewater treatment plant and a
public hearing on changing discount rates for water and sewer charges for
senior citizens and disabled people.
