GRANDVIEW - With new shops and restaurants moving into downtown and new homes being built throughout the community, when the Grandview Chamber of Commerce sat down to decide what the theme of its upcoming auction would be, the answer seemed obvious - "The Future Is So Bright, You Gotta Wear Shades."
Two weeks from now, as people walk into the auction they will be greeted with a barrage of warm weather decorations, from bright shining suns to high flying kites.
Nicole Walker with the Grandview Chamber of Commerce said those planning on attending the annual auction should prepare themselves for an evening of fun.
The Grandview Chamber of Commerce auction is set to take place Friday, March 18, at 6 p.m. at Grandview High School.
Besides the themed decorations, Walker said each of the tables will be beautifully appointed by different sponsors. She said each of the tables will decorated differently with souvenirs people can take home at the end of the evening.
"There will be some really spectacular tables," Walker said.
The Grandview Chamber of Commerce auction is one of the organization's largest fund-raisers. Walker explained that all of the items auctioned off are donated to the Chamber. This year silent auction items will include everything from gift baskets to decoration, while the live auction will include vacation packages, show tickets and other luxury items.
There are some new innovations coming to the auction this year. Walker said this year everyone attending the auction will receive a commemorative wine glass.
Walker said the dinner will also be a little bit different. She said instead of having everyone stand in a buffet line to get their meal, the Chamber has planned a plated dinner for the event.
She explained that the Wal-Mart distribution center and other local businesses donated food that will be prepared with help from the Grandview School District food service department.
Tickets for the 2005 Grandview Chamber of Commerce auction are $20, and can be found at any of the bank branches in Grandview or by calling the Grandview Chamber of Commerce at 882-2100.
Walker said the Chamber is still accepting donations for the auction. She noted that someone doesn't need to be a Chamber member to donate to the event.
According to Walker, the funds raised through the auction will go towards meeting the Chamber's goal of improving and offering more services to Chamber members.
She said the Grandview Chamber of Commerce is an organization that continues to grow, and more funds will simply allow the Chamber to continue to expand its services.
