Looking for soccer sign-ups? Visit the Sunnyside Community Center

For those still a bit perplexed about where to go to sign up their children for spring Parks and Recreation sports, the answer is- look for the new sign.

Visiting the old parks and recreation office, the doors are locked and curtains drawn, but that doesn't mean there won't be spring soccer.

Since moving over to the Sunnyside Community Center in South Hill Park, there have been some who haven't known where to find the community's parks and recreation office.

Yesterday (Thursday), the staff of H2 Signs of Prosser erected a new sign letting residents know that not only is there a park on South First Street, but also the community center, which is the hotspot of community activity for all ages.

The parks and recreation office moved to the community center Dec. 1, and is now offering open gym on the days the office is open.

Recently, Joan Niemeyer, spokesperson for the Sunnyside Parks and Recreation Department, has been taking sign-ups for the youth soccer program, but very few youngsters have signed up, which she believes could be attributed to the move.

Youth soccer sign-ups will be taken until Thursday, March 10. The cost is $20 for in-city residents and $26 for non-city participants. The fee includes a soccer t-shirt.

The league is open to boys and girls in kindergarten (5-years-old) through sixth grade.

For more information about the program call the Sunnyside Parks and Recreation Office, 837-8660, or stop by the office, 1520 South First Street, between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m.
