The Sunnyside Public Works Department will be flushing the water system and preparing for the spring water well start-up Monday, March 7, and Thursday, March 10, from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.
The city-wide flushing of the system removes iron and manganese deposits, which cause "rusty" looking water. The other benefits of flushing the system are for hydrant flow testing and spring start-up of wells for upcoming summer usage.
City water division employees will be opening up fire hydrants around town to release the "rusty" water.
Some turbidity, or mixing up the deposits, will occur causing temporary discoloration of the water, however, the discolored water doesn't pose any health concerns.
The Sunnyside Public Works Department suggests flushing household plumbing, including clothing and dish washers, for a few minutes the first thing in the morning to eliminate any deposits, which may be in private plumbing systems.
