Latino farmers cooperative topic of meeting set

for next Thursday

A meeting of Latino farmers to discuss a cooperative is scheduled for Thursday, March 17, at Sunnyside's El Conquistador Restaurant.

Thursday's meeting will be held from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the East Edison Avenue eatery.

Next week's gathering is a follow-up to a meeting that was held two weeks ago in Yakima, where about 50 Latino farm producers participated in an import and export seminar to discuss opportunities of shipping Washington state products outside the U.S. At that meeting, Northwest Fruit Exporters Manager Jim Archer provided information to the Latino farmers on how they can be certified to export Washington apples to Mexico.

The March 17 meeting will be used to discuss the activation of a Latino farmers cooperative.
