Mabton places 17 at East Valley tournament


This is the 2005 Mabton Little Vikings wrestling team. The team has done well at several tournaments this year and will be wrestling at a tournament in Wenatchee this weekend.

MOXEE - The Mabton Little Viking youth wrestling program had quite a successful outing at a tournament in East Valley this past Saturday.

Of the 24 wrestlers the Mabton squad took to Moxee, 17 of them placed.

Taking first place honors for the Vikings in the 13-14-year-old division was Saul Valdez (215 lbs.). Brandon Marquez won top honors in the 9-10-year-old, 92-lb. bracket.

Gilberto Martinez took second place honors for Mabton in the 5-6-year-old, 41-lb. bracket. Also placing second in the 5-6-year-old division was Jeremiah Trujillio (52 lbs.). Dante Cruz was second in the 80-lb., 7-8-year-old bracket.

The Vikings had two wrestlers finish second in the 13-14-year-old division. Brandon Purdy was second in the 78-lb. bracket and Damion Marquez took runner-up honors at 215 lbs.

Danny Vargas rounded out the second place finishes for Mabton in the 72-lb., 11-12-year-old bracket.

Placing third for Mabton in the 5-6-year-old, 61-lb. division was Desanay Guerreo. Placing third in the 7-8-year-old brackets were Desiree Zavala (50 lbs.) and Bobby Flores (60 lbs.). Frank Martinez took third in the 100-lb., 11-12-year-old division, as did teammate Geovany Vargas (115 lbs.). Placing third in the 9-10-year-old division was Rafael Martinez (98 lbs.) and Juan Gomez (115 lbs.).

Mabton had two fourth place finishes, both coming in the 11-12-year-old brackets. Valentine Morales was fourth in the 72-lb. bracket and teammate Andrew Martinez took fourth in the 82-lb. division.

Mabton will be at a tournament in Wenatchee this Saturday.
