Forced to eat dirt

I am a Sunnyside resident and have been since 1970. Where I live now and have for 17 years there's a construction site right across the street. I have called the Clean Air Authority more than once about the "dust." I am sitting in my living room eating dirt!

I just don't understand how "whoever" is building these houses never thought of the people who already live here. Ever since they started last year I have had respiratory problems and I am very tempted to contact an attorney.

What can we do, as citizens, to correct this problem? I did contact the city's property maintenance officer, Bill Eikenberry, last year and he said we have an ordinance here in Sunnyside that addresses this problem. Why isn't it enforced? He did not write them a citation last year. Why?

If there is an ordinance, then they have broke the law and still are. If I get pulled over for speeding I get a ticket. Why haven't they?

My husband and I are looking for a new place to live. We can't stand it any more. We've lived in this house for 17 years and they are chasing us out.

I can't believe I have to sit here and eat dirt while someone else is getting rich from the potential sale of these houses. Someone, please do something.

The Wyldlife club, grades 7 and 8, meets the first Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m. Call D.J. and Sara Cromwell at 837-8858 for further information about those meetings. All students are welcome!

God bless you all.
