Four arrested on school break-in charges

Three juveniles and an adult were arrested after they allegedly broke into one of the common areas in a Chief Kamiakin Elementary School pod this past weekend.

A 14-year-old Grandview teen, a 13-year-old Sunnyside teen and an 18-year-old Grandview man were arrested Saturday as they fled the scene, according to Sgt. Jim Rivard. Investigating officers and a school employee, all responding to an alarm at the school, chased the four from the scene. The fourth suspect, a 12-year-old Sunnyside boy, was arrested this morning (Monday) at school.

The four entered the school through a door that did not properly close, according to Rivard. While in the school, the suspects allegedly splattered paint on the doors and used markers and paint on the walls of the common area. Rivard said most of the damage can be cleaned up by school custodians. The teens reportedly also took marking pens, copy machine toner and candy.

The three juveniles are being charged in juvenile court and the older suspect is being charged in adult court. Charges are still pending.
