BENTON CITY - Three singles were all Sunnyside could muster off senior hurler Roni Feth yesterday. The Ki-Be Bears went on to blank the Lady Grizzly fastpitch softball team, 5-0.
Feth, a CWAC all-league second team selection last season as a junior, fanned eight and allowed just the three hits in leading Ki-Be to Tuesday's non-league victory.
"She brings straight heat," Sunnyside Coach Ralph Mendoza said of Feth. "She and their catcher, (Dani) Clegg, are an amazing 1-2 punch."
Feth also packed a punch at the plate. She turned in a 2-for-3 offensive performance, which included socking a third inning double.
The one other big hit the Bears had was a third inning triple by senior Cassie Cueto, a CWAC all-league first team selection last season.
Despite getting shut out yesterday, Sunnyside didn't turn in all that bad of a performance. Vidi Pasillas and Erica Garcia teamed on the pitching rubber to limit the Bears to just five hits. Pasillas (1-1), the starter, absorbed the loss. Of the five runs she gave up in five innings of work, only two of them were earned.
Sunnyside committed three errors on the afternoon.
The three singles the Lady Grizzlies came up with off Feth were notched by Devina Martinez, Victoria Solis and Crystal Soto.
Tuesday's loss was the Lady Grizzlies' first of the season, after opening the 2005 campaign with two straight wins.
Sunnyside (0-0, 2-1) continues its non-league schedule with a game at Grandview this coming Friday, slated to begin at 1 p.m.
