Sun Valley baseball holding sign-ups May 17

The Sun Valley summer baseball program is starting to kick things into high gear for the coming season.

Sun Valley officials will be accepting registrations from players Tuesday, May 17, at 5:45 p.m. at Sunnyside High School. The parents of the ball players will also have a chance to meet with the Sun Valley board of directors, including group President John Miller, that evening. The board of directors will be on hand, taking registrations, until 7:30 p.m.

In past years, Sun Valley has been able to field two teams ranging in age groups from 13-15 and 16-19 years old. Miller said if enough participants turn out for the summer program this year, Sun Valley officials would be more than glad to field a third team.

The registration fee for 13-15-year olds is $200 per player. The cost for the older age group is $300 per player.

"We play over 30 games and the competition is outstanding at all levels to say the least," said Miller.

To help offset the expenses for player's families, the board of directors devised a new way to help pay for the registration fees. At each home game this year, programs will be handed out with the rosters of each team along with a scorecard and advertisements from local businesses. Each Sun Valley player will have the opportunity to go out into the community and sell advertising for the programs. All proceeds from the advertising sales will go directly towards the player's dues.

Local businesses have a variety of advertisement sizes to choose from in the Sun Valley program. A business card ad sized will cost $25. A 1/4 page ad will cost $40 with a half-page ad costing $75. The cost of a full-page advertisement will be $100.
