Arlene Annette Urness, 62, of Sunnyside died Monday, May 2, 2005, at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.

She was born Nov. 13, 1942 in Kelso. Arlene received her education in Woodland and Missoula, Mont. Arlene was a bookkeeper much of her working career. At one time she was the assistant treasurer for the city of Othello. She also enjoyed and was proud to have served as the city clerk for the town of Washtucna.

She liked to relate that the Washtucna City Hall was open from 2 to 4 p.m. on Tuesday of each week. The rest of the time city hall was at her home.

Arlene was a person who lived for her family and friends.

She was deeply loved by many and respected by all who knew her.

She loved to read, cook and took great pride in her children and grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband, John, of Sunnyside; two sons, Tom and grandson, Christian, of Olympia; Jim (Gloria) and grandson, Jacob; and granddaughter, Samantha of Yakima. She is also survived by her parents, Gail and Jeanne Nelson; her sister, Nancy (Dave) Engebretson; her brother, Gail (Barbara) Nelson Jr. and a sister, Roseanne (Tom) Yelton, all living in Montana.

She was preceded in death by several aunts and uncles; and nieces and nephews in Montana.

Viewing and visitation will be held Friday, May 6, 2005, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Smith Funeral Home, Sunnyside. Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 7, 2005, at 10 a.m. at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church, Sunnyside.

Burial will follow at Lower Valley Memorial Gardens, Sunnyside. In lieu of flowers, a donation in Arlene’s name may be made to your favorite charity or to Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church building fund, would be greatly appreciated.
