Superintendent clears up confusion about planning commission
At last week's Sunnyside School Board meeting, Director
Lorenzo Garza wanted to know what the district was planning to do about the
recent confusion at a Sunnyside Planning Commission meeting regarding plans to
annex into the city 62 acres the district owns just off Washout Road.
The site that was before the planning commission in late
April is where the district plans to build a new middle school.
The planning commission, though, wanted more information on
the district's annexation request at its April meeting. The only problem was
that no one from the school district was on hand to address the commission's
Cole told the school board that the district only received
an e-mail notifying school officials of the planning commission meeting.
"We were not formally invited to attend the
meeting," said Cole.
Cole assured the directors that the district will have
several people on hand at the scheduled May 11 planning commission meeting to
address member's concerns about the annexation.
High school band students heading to Lilac Festival
At April's meeting, the Sunnyside School Board gave its OK
to a request from Sunnyside High School music teacher Tammi Sprenger to allow
band students to participate in the Spokane Lilac Festival Parade.
Band students will be gone the weekend of May 21, which has
been an annual excursion for the Sunnyside band program.
