Kim scores birdie at E'burg course

ELLENSBURG - Sunnyside High School sophomore Christine Kim nailed a rare birdie during yesterday's three-team golf match in Ellensburg.

Kim, who typically shoots well above the 100-mark in 18-hole matches, claimed her bird on the uphill, par-5 seventh hole.

"She had a huge drive," said Sunnyside Coach Gary Rohde. "Her second shot was uphill and she hit to the top of the ledge. That left her a short approach shot, and she stuck it very close to the pin.

"Her putt was basically a gimme," he said.

Kim ended up as Sunnyside's second low scorer on the day. She shot a 132 on front and back nines of 68-64.

The Lady Grizzlies' low scorer was freshman Dacia Drollinger. She had front and back side scores of 61-60 for a 121.

Freshman Nicole Southern also competed for Sunnyside, carding a 135 (73-62).

Because Sunnyside only sent three golfers to Thursday's match, the Lady Grizzlies were officially listed as incomplete in the team scoring. West Valley had the low team score, a 387, behind the efforts of medalist Betsy Yergen, who carded a 12-over-par 85.

The low individual round for Ellensburg, which tallied a 450, was a 107.
