GLENWOOD - The Bickleton High School girls track team finished in third at the Greater Columbia League 'B' meet held this past Friday in Glenwood. Led by senior Annie Hess, the Lady Pirates collected 54 team points. Hess broke the discus record set by Chelsey Wheelhouse of Glenwod in 2002 The old mark was 133-8.
Hess set the new meet record at 141 feet for first place honors. She scratched on a throw of 151-10, which didn't count, said Bickleton Coach Darrell Lang. "But we'll settle for the 141-foot mark," he said.
Hess also claimed first place honors in the shotput with a distance of 35-2-1/2.
Corryn Raschko took first place honors in the pole vault with a leap of 7-6. She was very close to going 8-foot in the event, said Lang, but had to settle for tying her personal best.
Her younger sister, Danielle Raschko, took fourth in the 800-meter with a time of 2:48.1 and was seventh in the javelin with a distance of 59-11.
The Bickleton boys 4x400 relay team took sixth place with a time of 4:23.2. Team members included Bryan Whitmore, Tyler Jensen, Cody Loomis and Ryan Bravo.
Jensen had a big personal best in the triple jump as he improved by almost two feet, while taking seventh with a distance of 35-9-3/4.
Eric Hess improved his shotput efforts by more than a foot to place fourth in Friday's meet. He threw the shot 39-10-1/2 for the fourth place finish. Lang said everyone on his team will advance to the District meet to be held in Wapato this coming Friday. The top four finishers in each event will advance to Regionals to be held the following week.
